You as a Writer

You as a Writer: Mikah-Lyn Sacco

My first influence of writing was my Grandma Sacco, Grandma Hurdsman, my dad, my Aunt Tifnie, and Mrs. CarolAnne Streams. My grandmas were always working with me and telling me things to write. My dad and my Aunt Tifnie always had, I guess a war you could say, going on. My dad would have me write in my notebook, “Tifnie is fat.” Then later my Aunt Tifnie would see it and tell me to write, “Albert is ugly.” To this day my Aunt Tifnie claims she is still offended that that was my first sentence I was able to write. Then there was Mrs. CarolAnne Streams who taught me how to follow the dotted lines and write between the lines in preschool.

When I was little I used to love writing. I was writing all the time. I carried a notebook wherever I went. I would write things people said, I copied signs I would see, I wrote almost anything. But, as I grew older I started to like it less and less. Now that I’m in high school and I have to write a billion papers, I absolutely despise writing. I wished I still loved to write. It would make things a whole lot easier in high school and college.

When I write it has to be absolutely quiet. Since I don’t like writing too much, if there is one little noise I get distracted easily and that one little noise is all I think about. When I sit down to start writing I can only do one paragraph maybe two at a time, unless I’m having a really good day. I just get too bored too fast to sit down for that long and concentrate on writing. There are a few exceptions. If I'm travleing long distances I can usually write the whole paper just because its something to do to pass the time. Also, if I'm hyper then I can write some pretty interseting things.

The worst kind of writing is poems. In elementary it was easy because they gave you layouts of how to write a certain poem and pretty much all of them you rhymed. In elementary I even won a poem contest and got it published in a poetry book. In high school its not that fun anymore. Most poems you have to read are confusing and don’t make sense and its even harder to write ones that compete with those extreme ones to get a good grade.

Probably the best kind of writing is research papers. I have a hard time coming up with things to write in a paper. Therefore research papers are my kind of paper. In a research paper you state facts about your topic that somebody has already wrote about and you put it in your paper. I mean come on how much easier can it get. There is a lot of preparing to write a research paper but in the end its the kind of paper you should want to write.

I’m on of those people that can talk to my friends and family forever and ever about anything. But, when it comes to making presentations and reading in front of the class I have a hard time. I get so nervous that my hands sweat and start to shake. My face even turns as red as a tomato. I thinks its just because you see those people seven hours in a day and you don’t want them to remember you as the girl that gets embarrassed and turns red in front of the whole class. I don’t do well doing things in front of a group of people.

My weaknesses in writing would have to be that I don’t know how to start and end a paper. You’re supposed to have a strong beginning and end and I think that’s why I freak out because I don’t think I’m a strong writer. As a writer I would like to be able to start and end a paper without any flaws. If I could come up with those two things I would feel a lot better about writing.
